Dear Readers,

Can you help me get Charlotte County's attention? I don't know where else to turn except to hope that one of you knows the right people and can help us out today (12/30/22). The bookstore move is at a standstill while we wait for code enforcement, who promised to be here yesterday but never showed up. They must visit us TODAY or the rest of the books are lost forever.

Here's what happened:

Moving, Unexpectedly.

With three weeks' notice, we have to pack up our entire bookstore to clear the way for repairs to the building.

What does that mean for readers?

HUGE DISCOUNTS. We do NOT want to put things in storage if we can help it - and we've marked everything down to encourage you guys to buy it so we don't have to store it. Also, our fixtures and furniture and art is all for sale right now too - so if you have a favorite chair, now's the time to ask about buying it!

Hurricane CleanupA Tale of 3 Storms (Part 2)

This fall, we experienced three separate storms that caused a huge amount of damage to the bookshop. (The preliminary estimates suggest we suffered over a million dollars in damage to our store and inventory.) Rapid response and cleanup saved a lot, but we are looking at a massive loss and there's an unimaginable amount of work left to do.

Hurricane Ian Updates

Our brick-and-mortar store is presently closed due to Hurricane Ian. HOWEVER, you can still order online! The webstore is current and up to date. Online orders are being fulfilled as normal. We SUPER appreciate the business since it is our only source of income right now (and we have a lot of repairs to pay for).

Note: I'm adding updates to this page rather than creating a new blog post. Skip down to: Sep 30 | Oct 3 | Oct 4 | Oct 11-12

Banned Books WeekBanned Books

It's that time of year again! Banned Books Week is here and (once again) the list of titles is overwhelming and horrifying.

For each of these titles, I've linked the most affordable copy available but if you'd like to have more collectible editions, let me know! I'll be glad to compile a list of beautifully bound volumes.

A Reading List

Dystopian novels form a huge part of science-fiction literature (but they don't have to be sci-fi). Here, I've compiled a list of some of the best-loved titles, arranged by year of publication. If your favorite is missing, send me a note; I'd love to add it.

Artist, Writer, Conservationist, Gardener

On this day in 1866, Beatrix Potter was born. Her charming stories, and the beautiful illustrations she created for them, would go on to inspire and comfort generations of children and adults. She's most famous for Peter Rabbit, but the world she created is populated with dozens of endearing animal characters - as varied and interesting as the details of her own life.
